check us on the news/radio/travel reports !
Day 1 Well we set off at 10:30 (slight delay due to a radio interview) with Dave driving the truck and Brian and Jeff walking alongside Bob the Dalek driven by dave's son. A nice steady walk down the road before crossing the M4 at J16 which did have its moments a driver on the M-way seen the Dalek above him and suddenly slowed to nearly have an HGV hit him up the rear so it was "quick off the bridge" before waving good-bye to Jeff who had to get home for work.
We swapped Bob for Ruby and wagon Drivers just outside Wooton Bassett had a quick coffee at the Marie Curie Office in Wooto's high street then a long climb up the hill to Lyhnam and on to the Lysly Arms pub for our over night stop and BBQ with their Biker Night.
Day 2 Up with the lark and off to Chippenham spent and a busy hour before moving out along the A4 towards Bath which was fairly quiet for a Tues. On our way out we stopped by Bath FM's radio station for more interviews and let some of the staff have go in Ruby. We finally made our Tues night stop at The Black Castle Pub in Brislington, Bristol around 8pm. We were a bit late for the Kareokee but us and the staff did have fun squirting the punters with Ruby's water gun.
Day 3 From Brislington we were joined by Emily (Dave's daughter) we briefly popped into see the guys at LSUK one of the few company's that have helped us out with things involved for this challenge. We arrived in Bristol City center about 11am the truck went off to @Bristol to park up and unload Bob so we could have both Daleks out for an hour or two had a great time with the public in and around the center until as we were at the wagon sorting the kids out who were getting a bit dehydrated some undesirables on skateboards thought it was a good idea to shoot passed and nick a collection tin off Bob ok it was only about £30-40 but that's not the point. After seeing security for the area and police being contacted we set for our night stop at Pilning not far from the Severn Bridge via a children's out off school club for 6-1Curie year olds who had no idea they were getting a visit the looks on their faces was brill. Ruby broke her first wheel that afternoon as well but soon replaced A friend from work offered a stop out-side his house for the evening so home comforts for a few hours (bliss).
Day 4 We set off across the Old severn Crossing with Bob stopping for some pics with workmen and also some scenery pics. Then disaster 'Bobs' wheelchair motors started playing up so swap over again. Once on the A48 which was busy due a M-Way accident near Newport it was decided for safety reasons a few miles would have to be done inside the wagon into Newport where we unloaded Bob and pushed him through the Town but this was very quiet due to a lot of people avoiding the area because of the M4 problem. We reached our over night stop at Tredegar House and got a final look at 'Bob's motors and found out the fault was due to his motors had burnt out.
Day 5 Set off to Cardiff skirting the main town roads due another event going ond stopped just round the corner from the main Millenium Sq and the area where the BBC film Dr Who and Torchwood. Later that afternoon Jeff arrived with 'Nigel' We then had an hour that evening around the Square taking some pics and sightseeing.
Day 6 Final day 'YIPPEE' off we set with Ruby and Nigel with Jeff, Brian, Jack and Emily waliknd/driving them the last few miles to Penarth we were also joined by Tom a fellow Dalek Builder who lives in Cardiff. As we entered Penarth we were informed that the quickest way was via Alexandra Park then towards the Hospice and the fun Day what no-one said this park was full of STEP'Sbut after some quick lifting we finally arrived at the Hospice and a nice coffee and a burger.
We would like to thank all those that have donated either online or putting money in our tins and to all those that have honked their horns while passing us on the road and giving us great words of encouragement. It was hard and long but worth it maybe even a record "106miles in a Dalek" ? and i'm sure i heard Brian mention maybe 2 years time Swindon to London!!!! see you at the end there mate LOL, we'll have to wait and see.
Pictures of the trip can be viewed in the phot section.
